General Qualifications

You must:

  • Have a valid CDL Class A (HAZMAT not required but encouraged)
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Meet DOT requirements and pass a DOT physical, which includes substance screening
  • Have a safe driving record
  • Have good work history
  • Be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job
  • Be a graduate of a truck driving school approved by Drivers Management

(If you are in the Long Haul services, Werner Enterprises offers a progressive pay increase for your first year, which is paid on all miles, loaded and empty.)

After you have been driving with the company for three months as a qualified driver and passed our certified training program, you have the potential to become a trainer and increase your earnings.

Werner Enterprises’ production is 10% higher than our competitors, makes Werner Enterprises’ drivers some of the highest paid in North America.

Paychecks -- When and How?

Werner Enterprises has made it easier, faster and less expensive for you to drop an envelope into a TRIPPAK EXPRESS drop box after every load. With this program in place, your money is available to you faster than ever before.

Every Thursday, you can have your check mailed to your address or direct deposited to your bank.

If you meet the qualifications and are accepted into our Student Driver Program, you must complete the Werner training program (minimum of 275 driving hours). During the training period, the driver trainer and the Training Department staff will evaluate each student.

Student pay:

The first 0 - 275 hours, student receives $400 per week. After assignment to a trainer, you can draw a maximum advance of $150.00 every seven days against your salary.

Training Process

  • Attend orientation at the closest terminal
  • Be assigned a trainer
  • Complete a minimum of 275 driving hours
  • Pass your road test to become a qualified driver
  • Be assigned your own truck
  • Deliver your first load and receive graduation pay of $500

Tuition Reimbursement

Welcome to Werner Enterprises. One of the many benefits you will enjoy as a professional driver includes tuition reimbursement. Our general guidelines are listed below.

There is a $6,000 limit on Tuition Reimbursement.

If you pay cash, check, money order, or credit card for your school training:

Driver’s Management (DM) will reimburse to the driver, $100 per month, on the first pay period of each month, as long as you are employed with Werner. Reimbursement will start on the first pay period of the month following the completion of 30 days employment. The total amount reimbursed will not exceed $6,000.

If you finance your school training through SLS, Stafford, GSL, or a combination of these loans:

Driver’s Management (DM) will reimburse to the driver, $100 per month, on the first pay period of each month, as long as you are employed with Werner. Reimbursement will start on the first pay period of the month following the completion of 30 days employment. It will be the driver’s responsibility to make the loan payment each month to the appropriate lending agency. The total amount reimbursed will not exceed $6,000.

If you finance your school training through a lending institution with a scheduled payment of a loan contract:

Driver’s Management (DM) will reimburse to the lending institution, $100 per month, as long as you are employed with Werner. Tuition reimbursement will start on the next pay period following the completion of 30 days employment. The total amount reimbursed will not exceed $6,000. Automatic Payroll Deduction is available if your monthly loan payment exceeds $100 per month. Please contact our Tuition Reimbursement Department at (800) 346-2818 ext 2095, for further information.
