In 1995, Werner Enterprises opened a truck showroom at its Omaha, Neb. headquarters to encapsulate Werner's ceaseless heritage. Some of the first vehicles showcased include a replica of his first truck, a red 1956 Ford F-800 Big Job gas-powered truck; his red 1958 GMC Model-860 truck, his first diesel-powered engine and his 1985 burgundy custom-built personalized Peterbilt show truck, which he still carries an occasional load from time to time. The collection captures the essence of Werner's nostalgic past and features the evolution of the trucking industry throughout the years.
Werner's trucks and showroom later captured the attention of the world- renowned Smithsonian Museum. In 2002, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History asked Werner Enterprises to be a part of an exhibition entitled America on the Move. Werner contributed a 1984 Peterbilt 359-model tractor and flatbed trailer, among other truck-related items. The Smithsonian added Werners tractor and trailer to its permanent exhibition, which premiered in 2003.
The Smithsonian's America on the Move exhibition highlighted the country's transportation development from 1876 to 1999. Werner Enterprises' inclusion in the Smithsonian's exhibit affirms the significant role Werner played in the development of the nation's transportation system.
