JW Ray, Freedom 4 Driver
My "Werner Moment" happened a few years ago, when my son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. As much as I loved being on the road and driving, I knew deep down there was no way I could possibly continue being a safe driver while my mind was at home with my son.
Rather than having to choose between family and career, I was given an opportunity that I would never have dreamed of. I was allowed to stay with Werner and move to the Safety Department, as an over-night safety specialist. This position allowed me to be there for my family, while continuing to assist my fellow drivers who were out on the road.
While learning of a child's illness is a devastating blow that no parent should have to go through, I was fortunate that I did not have to go through it alone. My friends at Werner were with me throughout the whole ordeal.
After my son made a full recovery, I realized how much I missed being on the road and returned to my truck. But it was that moment when all my fellow Associates at Werner really showed their true colors and that is something I will be forever grateful for.
